The Millay Colony for the Arts is located at 454 East Hill Road in Austerlitz, New York. This is just over two hours North of New York City, by car or train. Both routes are quite scenic.

The Colony is 2 miles up a dirt road off of Route 22 in Austerlitz. In snowy or icy weather, you will want good tires and/or 4-wheel drive to get to us.
 

DIRECTIONS

From New York City: Take the Taconic Parkway North to the second to last exit—Route "203 to Chatham and Austerlitz." Turn left on Route 203 and follow it to the end, about 7 miles. Turn right (south) on Route 22 and take the first (almost immediate) left, which is East Hill Road. The Austerlitz Post Office is located on the corner of East Hill Road and Route 22. Go up East Hill Road about 2 miles to the Steepletop estate. There is a sign at the bottom of the Millay Colony driveway, which will be on your right—just after a bend in the road and the big white Millay barn.

From Boston: Head west on Interstate 90 and take the first exit (Exit B-3) in New York. Turn left (south) on Route 22. Route 22 heads over the highway and parallels the highway before turning south up a hill. At this point, East Hill Road is two miles up Route 22. There will be a road sign indicating a left fork. Take the left fork and come in on East Hill Road about a mile to the Steepletop estate. There is a sign at the bottom of the Millay Colony driveway, which will be on your left.

From points West: Take Exit 24 off the NYS Thruway onto I-90 East. Approximately 20 minutes later, I-90 feeds into the 'Berkshire Spur' section of the Thruway. Go through the toll booths and proceed to Exit B-3, Austerlitz. (Don't be alarmed by the toll booths between Exits B-2 and B-3.) Take Exit B-3. Turn left at the end of the ramp and almost immediately, turn right onto Route 22 (south). Go 2.7 miles to East Hill Road which forks off to the left at that point. Take East Hill Road .7 miles. There is a sign at the bottom of the Millay Colony driveway, which will be on your left.

Amtrak has numerous daily trains stopping at Hudson, New York. The trains leave Penn Station for Hudson (and heading on to Albany) starting at 7:15 AM. The last train leaves Hudson for New York at 7:40 in the evening. Prices vary with times, but average $39 each way.

The Millay Colony is half an hour from the Hudson train station. There are several taxi services, which can take you to the Colony from the train station.
